Kennedy Award for Reporting on the Disadvantaged, and many others. Bonnie Castillo
As the executive director of National Nurses United, Bonnie Castillo has had quite an impact on the nation throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Even before the pandemic was officially proclaimed in the United States, Castillo was working relentlessly with her organization in sending letters to major government and health organizations, demanding for the proper protections and rights for healthcare workers and their patients. Since April 2020, Castillos team has text messages of support and resources to thousands upon thousands over nurses across the United States, all while continuing to conduct public protests, news reports, and surveys. Her work has earned Castillo a spot on the TIME 100 - a list of the most influential people of the year. On the National Nurses' official website, Castillo stated her gratitude for the award, saying that it lets us know that our voice of patient advocacy is louder and more resonant than ever before.
