Daniel Surez Makes NASCAR History
NASCAR Driver Daniel Surez made history this racing season by becoming the first Mexican-born driver and the fifth driver born outside of the United States to win a NASCAR Cup series. Surez won the Cup driving his No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Team Chevrolet during his 195th career start at Sonoma Raceway. It's a crazy day, Surez stated of his monumental victory, I have so many thoughts in my head right nowJust very happy we were able to make it work. Surez has always taken great pride in his diversity in NASCAR, graduating from the Drive for Diversity program and being a vocal advocate for the pride he holds in his identity. I'm extremely proud to be the driver from Mexico, the driver from a different background, Surez once told NASCAR's news outlet, I don't feel that the sport could have found someone more committed to myself, my culture and my background.
