Navajo Nation Becomes the Largest Tribe in the U.S.
At nearly 400,000 enrolled members, the Navajo Nation officially became the largest Native American tribe in the United States, about a 100,000 increase from the last count. This puts it a few thousand ahead of the previous largest tribe, the Cherokee Nation. The increase of registered Navajos was discovered when the nation came together to fix their records for the distribution of the year's Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. This means that this year, the Navajo Nation will not only receive the reprimanded funds of the CARES Act, but they will receive a higher amount of allocated funds to support their larger community.
